Kuala Lumpur — More than a thousand fans gathered both online and offline to celebrate Christmas together with JessC in a heartwarming festive event filled with music, laughter, and surprises.

Dressed in a charming strawberry-themed Christmas outfit, “Little Rain” JessC joined the “Sunshine Brothers” from Symphony Theatre (SPAC) on stage for a live edition of Sunshine and Rain. Together, they performed a series of beloved theatre theme songs and Christmas melodies for fans.

The evening’s performances included the Indonesian song Pertolongan Mu, the Japanese track Hanamo, as well as theme songs from various productions such as Tearless Sky, The Last Tear, There You Are, and Heart’s Desire, the theme song from The Dream of Red Mansions.

Surprise Performance from The Butterfly Lovers

Toward the end of the celebration, JessC delighted fans with a special Christmas surprise by inviting Paul Lee, the male lead of the upcoming stage production The Butterfly Lovers, to perform the show’s theme song Detour together on stage.

The song was composed by American music producer John Lee, while Paul Lee—who portrays Liang Shanbo—personally wrote the lyrics. Through music, the song captures the tragic and timeless love story between Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai.

Following the duet, Paul Lee playfully took out a traditional Chinese umbrella and attempted to improvise a romantic scene with JessC on stage. However, JessC humorously responded:

“The audience at home already has enough romance every night—we don’t need to demonstrate it here.”

Her witty reply sent the audience into laughter. Still, in a sweet closing moment, JessC leaned across the semi-transparent umbrella and kissed Paul Lee on the cheek, drawing cheers from fans.

Years of Preparation for The Butterfly Lovers

JessC also revealed that the production team had spent years preparing The Butterfly Lovers, especially refining the script.

According to her, the writers worked extensively to preserve the historical authenticity behind the legendary tale.

“You’ll be surprised,” JessC shared. “Because Liang Shanbo, Zhu Yingtai, and Ma Wencai were actually real historical figures.”

She added that The Butterfly Lovers stage play is scheduled to premiere on February 25 next year.

New Year Countdown Performances Announced

Due to overwhelming response to the live version of Sunshine and Rain, Symphony Theatre (SPAC) announced four consecutive year-end performances from December 30 to January 2 at GTT Grand Hall, allowing fans to celebrate the New Year together with the cast and performers.

Final Note

Blending festive joy, theatrical music, romance, and heartfelt interaction, the Christmas edition of Sunshine and Rain once again showcased JessC’s ability to connect deeply with audiences. More than a concert or stage event, it became a celebration of warmth, storytelling, and togetherness across both physical and virtual spaces.
