From radio waves to the stage—and into homes worldwide—Symphony Theatre (SPAC) turns performance into a borderless experience.
Malaysian artist JessC, together with performers from Symphony Theatre (SPAC), successfully brought their EFM radio program Sunshine and Rain onto the stage, creating a hybrid live-and-digital experience that connected artists with audiences both in person and online. After five live-streamed sessions, the first season concluded on a high note.
A Theatre-Variety Fusion
Sunshine and Rain blended theatrical music and variety programming into one cohesive show. Performers delivered theme songs and original soundtracks from their stage productions, interwoven with curated segments hosted by the artists themselves, including:
- Sports Pulse
- Current Affairs Spotlight
- Healthy Living, Happy Life
- Nice to Know You
The format created a dynamic, magazine-style performance—part concert, part talk show, and entirely engaging.
Star Ensemble Across Productions
The lineup featured a cross-production ensemble from Symphony Theatre’s major works:
- JessC
- Jeffrey Beh (The Music Box)
- Terry Lim (The Dream of Red Mansions)
- Paul Lee (Meant To Be)
- John Lee (Tearless Sky)
- Isaac Cheah (The Last Tear)
Bringing together leading actors from multiple productions, the show served as both a retrospective and a celebration of the troupe’s artistic journey.
Nearly 10,000 Viewers Across 24 Countries
Across its five-show run, Sunshine and Rain achieved full-house attendance for every physical performance. More notably, it attracted online audiences from 24 countries, with total viewership approaching 10,000.
Due to health and safety SOP restrictions, seating capacity at the venue was limited. In response, Symphony Theatre adopted Facebook Live streaming to ensure that fans worldwide could still experience the performances in real time—bridging the gap between stage and screen.
Expanding Into the Cloud Stage
Responding to strong audience demand, Symphony Theatre also launched selected stage productions online via Cloud Theatre. Among them, Moonlight proved especially successful—selling over 1,000 tickets within just seven days of release.
Final Note
Sunshine and Rain marks more than the end of a season—it signals a shift in how theatre connects with audiences. By merging live performance with digital reach, JessC and her team have redefined accessibility in performing arts—turning every stage into a global one.
