Following successful productions including The Dream of Red Mansions, Meant To Be, and Tearless Sky, Malaysian singer-actress JessC has announced her newest stage production, Glow, which is set to premiere on September 26.

The six-show run has already seen several dates sell out, sparking strong excitement among fans.

A Reunion on Stage — With a Dramatic Twist

Glow marks JessC’s reunion with Marcus Choot following their collaboration in Music Box. However, their on-stage relationship takes a sharp turn this time.

JessC revealed that the production includes a scene where she is physically struck by the male lead.

“He’s hitting me for the first time,” she said with a laugh. “You don’t know—it actually feels quite intense!”

Marcus Choot, however, remained vague about the role, only describing his character as a gallery owner, adding playfully, “To hit is to care, to scold is to love.”

JessC responded jokingly, hinting that the scene was performed with full emotional commitment: “This time, the hitting feels very real—but willingly accepted.”

A Cast Blending Music, Theatre, and Visual Art

The production features a strong ensemble cast including:

  • John Lee
  • Paul Lee
  • Lily Lim
  • Chong Huifang

JessC shared that she has been involved in stage theatre since the age of 13, and after performing in Chinese-language theatre, she became deeply passionate about the form.

Over the years, her theatre team has successfully staged multiple productions that not only entertained audiences but also served as platforms to raise funds for vulnerable communities.

“My productions always carry positive messages,” she said. “Some audiences told me they learned to appreciate their relationships more and to support those who are ill. That means a lot to me.”

Creativity, Pressure, and a Tight Schedule

JessC also acknowledged that the director maintains extremely high standards, with a very tight rehearsal schedule. Having just completed Tearless Sky, the team quickly moved into Glow, leaving little time for rest.

As part of the production, cast members were also required to create paintings for a charity exhibition, which will be showcased during the performances to raise additional funds. JessC emphasized that the actors are not professional painters and asked audiences to view the artworks with understanding.

Music, Painting, and Collaboration

John Lee and Paul Lee—American-Taiwanese brothers and award-winning musicians—also play key roles in the production. They contributed several original songs, including Don’t Be Afraid, Complicated, and Love You.

They noted that performing in theatre is more physically demanding than solo piano performances, but they enjoy the spontaneity and live interaction with audiences.

Charity Exhibition and Fundraising

All paintings created by the cast will be exhibited during the show and auctioned for charity. Proceeds will be fully donated to the JessC Cancer Fund.

One of JessC’s artworks, titled Homecoming, was already sold for RM10,000 during the press event.

Performance Schedule

Glow will be staged at the Symphony Theatre (SPAC) Theatre on:

26 & 27 September
3, 4, 10 & 11 October
