Following four consecutive sold-out performances, The Butterfly Lovers achieved yet another milestone at Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac) by staging two full performances in a single day — both completely sold out — setting a rare record in the local theatre scene.

Presented by Symphony Theatre (SPAC), the production was performed back-to-back on KLPac’s largest theatre stage, Pentas 1, attracting more than 1,000 audience members in total. Just half an hour after the first performance concluded, the cast quickly prepared themselves again for the second show. JessC and the entire production team demonstrated remarkable professionalism and endurance, earning admiration from audiences for continuing the demanding performances without complaint.

According to a spokesperson from Symphony Theatre (SPAC), the original 3pm show with 500 seats had already sold out a week earlier. However, due to overwhelming public demand and continuous ticket requests, the production team decided to add another performance at 7:30pm, taking on what they described as a “theatre marathon challenge.” Surprisingly, the additional 500 tickets for the evening show were also completely snapped up within just one week of release.

In this production of The Butterfly Lovers, JessC delivered an emotionally intense performance filled with powerful crying scenes. The production itself was also mounted on a grand scale, featuring exquisite traditional Chinese props, immersive LED stage visuals, and advanced stage technology to enhance the audience’s emotional connection to the story.

The performance further incorporated numerous elements of traditional Chinese culture, including Sichuan face-changing performances, Peking Opera influences, Chinese martial arts, and classical poetry. By preserving and showcasing these rich cultural traditions, the production successfully attracted interest from travel agencies hoping to bring tour groups to experience the show, gradually turning it into one of the theatre attractions for tourists in Malaysia.

The production of The Butterfly Lovers was organized in collaboration with the Malaysia Naturopathic Association (MNA) to raise funds for the JessC Cancer Fund in support of cancer patients.

At present, tickets for the first eight performances have all sold out, while additional shows scheduled for April 15, April 22, and April 30 are currently selling rapidly.
