The upcoming stage production Glow, starring Malaysian entertainer JessC, will officially begin its six-show run on September 26. Set against the backdrop of an art gallery, the production features six main cast members and two directors who have specially created original artworks.
These paintings will be exhibited and auctioned during the performances, with proceeds going to the cancer foundation established by JessC, supporting ongoing charitable efforts through theatre and art.
Strong Early Donations Before Opening
At a press conference held on Thursday, cast members including Marcus Choot, John Lee, Paul Lee, JessC, Lily Lim, Terry Lim, and Jessica Chung gathered to promote the production and showcase their artworks.
Two early philanthropic contributions were announced at the event: RM10,000 and RM2,000 donations, used to purchase JessC’s painting Homecoming and Marcus Choot’s artwork Dreamscape.
A Continuation of a Post-Lockdown Theatre Journey
Since the recovery period following movement restrictions, JessC has continued an active theatre schedule with productions including Meant To Be, The Dream of Red Mansions, Tearless Sky, and now Glow.
From Moonlight, Music Box, to Glow, JessC also reunites with Marcus Choot after a three-year stage separation. She hinted at a dramatic on-stage dynamic in this production, jokingly revealing:
“I will be getting hit by him—and I’m willing. In fact, it feels quite satisfying.”
A Lifelong Commitment to Theatre With Purpose
JessC shared that she began performing stage theatre at the age of 13, initially working mainly in English productions. After transitioning into Chinese-language theatre, she developed a deep passion for it.
Beyond artistic expression, she emphasized the dual purpose of her productions: raising funds for cancer patients through the JessC Cancer Fund while also offering emotional release and inspiration to audiences.
“Many audience members told me they feel uplifted after watching,” she said. “Some even cried at the end. That emotional response is what keeps me going.”
Selective in Roles, Focused on Meaningful Stories
JessC also revealed that she has turned down numerous acting offers in recent years after reviewing scripts that did not meet her expectations.
“I only want to perform stories that carry positive energy and truly touch people’s hearts,” she explained. “Most audiences leave the theatre emotional—and that emotional connection is the real motivation.”
Closing Note
With Glow, JessC continues to merge theatre, visual art, and philanthropy into a single artistic experience—turning stage performance into a platform for emotional storytelling and meaningful social impact.
