After five years of meticulous planning, Symphony Theatre (SPAC) once again presents a deeply faithful stage adaptation of The Dream of Red Mansions.
In this production, local artiste JessC leads as the iconic classical beauty Lin Daiyu, delivering a heartfelt portrayal of Daiyu’s pure and tragic love for Jia Baoyu that moved audiences to tears.
A Marathon Stage Experience
The production runs for an impressive 3 hours and 45 minutes, featuring a cast of more than 20 performers. Alongside JessC, the ensemble includes:

Immersive Production Design
To elevate the audience experience, the production team invested in high-quality sound systems, LED visual backdrops, and specially custom-built furniture and props. These elements work together to immerse audiences fully within the emotional world of the story, creating a cinematic stage experience.
A Pure Love Story Brought to Life
JessC’s interpretation focuses deeply on Lin Daiyu’s inner emotional world, portraying her as a modern yet faithful embodiment of pure, unconditional love toward Jia Baoyu. Her performance highlights both fragility and strength, capturing the character’s emotional intensity with sincerity and depth.
The Most Challenging Role of Her Career
JessC admitted that this is the most demanding stage production she has ever undertaken, due to its emotionally dense narrative and psychologically complex character work. She also noted that staging The Dream of Red Mansions for the first time in Malaysia added additional pressure for the entire cast.
However, what began as pressure was ultimately transformed into motivation, allowing the team to successfully complete the performance.
