Malaysian singer-actress JessC moved audiences to their feet after completing a nearly two-and-a-half-hour performance of Moonlight despite suffering an ankle injury, showcasing remarkable professionalism and dedication.
Performing Through Pain
During the third show of Moonlight, JessC accidentally injured her ankle in a სცene where her character is slapped, causing her to fall awkwardly. Although organizers initially considered postponing the following performance, JessC insisted on going ahead after learning that the fourth show at the Symphony Theatre (SPAC) was completely sold out.
Determined not to disappoint her fans or cause inconvenience, she chose to take the stage injured and complete the final scheduled performance at the venue.
Fortunately, her stage costume—particularly her boots—did not aggravate the swollen area. JessC later shared, “As long as I can still wear the boots, I will perform. Xiao Fan doesn’t have an injured ankle, so I must portray her as she is. Once I’m on stage, I am no longer myself.”
A Stark Contrast On and Off Stage
Behind the scenes, JessC was seen limping carefully to protect her injury. Yet once under the spotlight, she performed as if nothing had happened. This striking contrast left a deep impression on the production team.
By the time the curtain fell, emotions ran high—cast and crew alike were moved to tears.
Overwhelming Response and Expanded Tour
Moonlight has received an outpouring of praise online, with strong audience reactions and widespread engagement on social media. The first four shows were all sold out, with the fourth performance even extending seating beyond the theater entrance to accommodate the crowd.
In response to the overwhelming demand—and to raise more funds for cancer patients—the organizers have expanded the tour to a total of 15 performances, covering multiple cities across Malaysia and Singapore.
